What Causes Blocked Drains?
Blocked drains can be caused by a range of issues depending on the location of the blockage. In kitchens, grease, oils, food scraps and soap residue are common causes. In bathrooms, hair, soap scum and hygiene products often build up inside drains.
Outdoor drains and stormwater systems can become blocked by leaves, dirt, mulch, garden debris and sediment. Sewer drains may be affected by tree roots, pipe damage, collapsed sections or foreign objects flushed into the system.
No matter what has caused the blockage, it is important to have the drain properly assessed. Clearing the immediate blockage is only part of the job. If the underlying cause is not identified, the problem may return.
